AI Features and Your Data
Family Vault offers optional AI-powered features including audio/video transcription and writing assistance. When you use these features:
- Your content is processed by our AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) solely to provide the requested service
- We do not use your content to train AI models
- AI processing is performed on-demand and content is not retained by AI providers
- You can choose not to use AI features without any impact on core functionality
Data Storage and Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
- Media files are stored in secure cloud storage with encryption at rest
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with appropriate salt rounds

- With vault members: Content you add to a vault is visible to other members of that vault

Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you cancel your subscription:
- You have a 90-day grace period to reactivate or export your data
- After the grace period, your data will be permanently deleted

Age Requirements and Children's Privacy
Account Holders (18+)
Account creation requires users to be at least 18 years old. We collect date of birth during registration to verify age eligibility.
Teen Members (13-17)
Users aged 13-17 may participate as vault members when invited by an adult account holder. For teen members, we collect:
- Email address and name
- Date of birth (to verify age eligibility)
- Content they choose to contribute
The adult who invites a teen member assumes responsibility for their participation. Parents/guardians may contact us at any time to review, modify, or delete their child's information.
Children Under 13
In compliance with COPPA, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users under 13 are not permitted to create accounts or participate as vault members. Content about children under 13 (photos, stories, etc.) may be shared by their parents or guardians. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by email or through the service. Your continued use of Family Vault after such modifications constitutes your acknowledgment and acceptance of the updated policy.
